Many people I've spoken to ended up making life altering decisions. 3 families I know have left the UK for greener climes and another 4 are leaving the big cities for greener spaces where the pace of life is slower and their vistas wider. Normally I am a special occasions seamstress, but not anymore. As the months indoors wore on and everyone started gardening, home schooling and working via zoom I was asked for not just informal wear, but comfortable to absorb and disguise the new spreading waist line while  reflecting the clients own tastes and long buried under work clothes desires. No one cares about what was in the magazines anymore or the season's colours. What I was being asked for was classic lines, flattering lengths and disguised roominess. The 50's and

Awards Ceremony Dressing, When you need to be #gettyimages ready

Congratulations to @cherrelleskeete for her award of best supporting actress at @thebbtas The Black British Theatre Awards. Her partner @shilohcoke had  this beautiful velvet tailored jacket that needed some alterations. It was a little too big and boxy. I shaped and contoured it flatter her curves. A very famous online fashion brand sent her trousers that were 2 sizes too large which i made alterations too as well.I love how the outfits complimented each other. I always enjoy sewing for Cherelle  Skeete. She has a unique style and  Really loves halter necks. This is the second one I have made for her. Cherelle was torn between 2 ideas. In the end we went for the halterneck top part with wide leg bottom creating this super fabulous jumpsuit. The fabric was a lovely bold green and black print with pink stripes but i didn't want to have the stripes all the way through the outfit so i cut them out of the top part and added an extra stripe on each leg. I really love the new pattern t

Coming for a Fitting for your Made to Measure Dress

There are several procedures and processes I go through when making your made to measure outfit. Stage 1 is agreeing the design, fabric, price, fitting date, collection date and taking your measurements, which is done in person or remotely. Stage 2 I will cut and begin constructing the outfit Stage 3 is the fitting. A typical fitting takes 15 to 30mins although I always factor 1 hour. A fitting is vital as its an oportunity for the client and i to see how well the garment fits and if any alterations have to be carried out before the client can take the garment away with them. Some garments such as suits and wedding dresses may need 2 or 3 fittings, but most outfits only need 1 fitting seassion. When an outfit such as the one in the photo doesnt need too much work and if we both have time. I will finish the outfit durring the appointment and the client can take it away with them that day. This is really handy for clients who have traveled a long way to see me. The dr

When i was growing up 4 decades ago my parents shared a wardrobe and their shoes fit at the bottom.  Mum also had a trunk of African cloths and that was it in terms of their clothes and it was the same story in all the homes of our family and friends. The change came with the death of C&A and high street clothes no longer being made in the UK. Around that time in the 80s a big story broke in the news. Emelda Marcos the wife of the president of Singapore was reported to have over 1000 pairs of shoes. We couldnt believe it. We'd never heard anything like before, but it ignited the imagination of.women everywhere to the idea of having many many many shoes. So many shoes that you would need a room dedicated to them. It wasnt that we didnt have cheap imports in the 70s and 80s. We did ! But yo
